Today marks the launch of the Yukon Dental Program, a new initiative by the Government of Yukon to improve access to dental care for residents of the territory. The program will provide funding for a range of dental services, including preventative care, fillings, extractions, and dentures.
The program is aimed at low-income households and individuals who do not have dental insurance coverage, and will be available to all Yukon residents, regardless of their age or income level. Up to 8,000 Yukoners are expected to benefit from the program, which will provide $1,300 per year in dental benefits.
The Yukon Dental Program will be implemented in phases, with the first phase focusing on preventative care and education. This will include funding for dental screenings, cleanings, and fluoride treatments for children and adults. The second phase will focus on restorative care, including funding for fillings, extractions, and dentures.
The program will be available to all Yukon residents, including those who are not eligible for dental coverage under the territory’s Medical Services Plan. It will be funded through a combination of federal and territorial government resources, as well as partnerships with local dental clinics and service providers.
“Dental care should be accessible to all Yukoners and the new Yukon Dental Program will improve the lives of many Yukoners by providing them with the care they need when they need it. This program will help close a gap in service and is an example of our deep commitment to improving health outcomes and reducing inequities. Thank you to all dental care providers for delivering high-quality services to Yukoners, and I look forward to the integration of this new program as it takes us another step forward in our journey to transform health services for Yukoners and implement the Putting People First report.” Minister of Health and Social Services Tracy-Anne McPhee
The launch of the Yukon Dental Program is an important step in improving access to dental care for all residents of the territory. The program is expected to benefit thousands of Yukoners and will help ensure that everyone has access to the dental care they need to maintain good oral health.
