Another Boarded Up Home In Winnipeg, Another Fire

Weekly fires from vacant properties are keeping Winnipeg Fire Fighters extremely busy

Early Thursday morning, around 5 am, Winnipeg Fire Department were dispatched to a fire at 898 Banning Street. According to sources, the home was a vacant property in the city’s West End. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Winnipeg Fire Chief. Based on the aftermath of the fire and the volume of water required to oust the flames, the property is a total loss after consulting with an insurance expert.

According to Don Woodstock, Mayoral Candidate, Winnipeg has approximately 600 boarded-up homes in the core area. And since last week’s reporting, there have been multiple fires across the city.

“Fires can be seen as neglect by civic government and bad politics. I have a plan based on sound common sense and expediting renovations on vacant properties is must,” Said Woodstock

Vacant properties and boarded-up houses remain a significant eye sore on the city’s landscape. The previous mayors and administrations promised to fix this problem, but they never did. As the election draws closer, more candidates prioritize the city’s inner core. Winnipeggers head to the polls on October 26, 2022.
