US-Canada Border Is Open Again For the First Time Since 2020

The Canadian border is now open to fully vaccinated American citizens and permanent residents.

For more than a year and a half, the border between Canada and the United States has been shut down because of COVID-19 restrictions. Yet because of increased vaccination rates in both countries, restrictions have eased and travel had commenced once again.

For Americans who wish to enter Canada, they must have been inoculated against COVID-19 with all required doses of any or a mix of these four approved vaccines: AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, Moderna, and Pfizer-BioNTech. Furthermore, the Canada Border Service Agency stated that to enter Canada, one must have all of the following:

• Contact & travel information
• 14-day travel history
• Pre-arrival COVID-19 molecular test result
• COVID-19 symptom self-assesment
• Proof of vaccination (only for fully vaccinated travellers)
• Quarantine plan

On the latter point, quarantine can be avoided if a person passes the Canadian government’s fully vaccinated traveller exemption. To do so, one must abide by all the requirements previously listed and have received their last dose at least 14 days before entering the country.

Canadian travellers remain unable to cross the Canada-U.S. land border unless their work is essential until at least August 21, 2021. However, Canadians have been able to fly to America throughout the pandemic.

The allowance of US travellers in Canada proves to be further steps in a return normalcy. This sense of normalcy will most certainly grow on September 7, 2021 when more countries will be able to set foot on Canadian soil.
