Understanding around Money

When approaching money from the perspective of needing it to buy or pay for our necessities, it becomes easy to see money as a valuable thing to warrant our major focus in acquiring it.  In some cases, it becomes a dominating thing causing people to placed money ahead of their own families; spouse, children, parents…  Countless valuable relationships have been destroyed because of lack of understanding of money.

In the world today where education is prolific in so many fields of study, why is there still significant deficiencies in the understanding of money?  Is it because of lack of interest?  Or maybe arrogance? Or is it something else that we dare to not think about?  The million dollar question is, does your current life completely reflect exactly what you want?  Are you on track to enjoying such a life?

In answering these questions, some of us may want to think we are, when we might not be.  One of the things I learnt early in life is that to take the correct action to advance my life, I need to know the truth so that my actions could align with where I am and where I want to go.  Inaccuracy in any of these, would cause the results from my actions, to not get me where I hope to be.  So in questioning myself, I found that getting the truth, is critical.

In saying this, if you are truly living your dream, congratulations. I am genuinely happy for you.  I would love it if you would be willing to grant our readers a little time to learn of your story on how you did it.  You may be aware that according to statistics, over 91% of Canadian cannot retire with dignity and less than 3% are truly living their dream.  These are the millionaires.  Many of the people in the 91% have a poor relationship with money and therefore, undeveloped understanding around money.

Having spoken with a many people on the subject of money, I found that though some may have degrees in Finance, or working in the financial industry, some basic but critical understandings around this subject are often unknown to them.  As mentioned before, this is not a shortcoming on their part and nothing to be ashamed about.  The same cannot can be said if an individual has made a decision to avoid this understanding.  The main reason is because we need money for just about everything.  We work for money and face the consequences when we experience a lack of money.  Wouldn’t it therefore be wise to invest time to understand that which is so important for one to enjoy a good quality of life?
