UK Sets Site On Middle East Peace Talks

UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab meeting with leaders of Palestine and Israel to discuss details of the ceasefire

TDS News – Ceasefires rarely last and with the current one in place between Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory, it is more like a pause. The world wants to be optimistic, but we have also seen this situation played out for decades. As the world watches the continued destruction of the region and assault on civilians, the UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab is in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories for talks with senior leaders following the Israel-Gaza ceasefire.

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab

“The UK welcomes the ceasefire in Israel and Gaza. It is crucial that all sides now focus on ensuring it can last. The events of the last month demonstrate the urgent need to make genuine progress towards a more positive future for both Israelis and Palestinians, and breaks the cycle of violence that has claimed so many lives.” Said Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab

The UK like many countries support a two-state solution, however, many global experts do not see it possible as long as the Palestinians continue to be forced out of their homes to make room for Israelis settlements. In 2021 Human rights watch accused Israel of apartheid based on the 1973 Apartheid convention. [1] Wiki – Apartheid was a system of institutionalised racial segregation that existed in South Africa and South-West Africa, in which they drew an eery comparison to that treatment of the Palestinians.

Often at the centre of the armed conflicts in Gaza and the West bank is Hamas, a Palestinian military organization operating out of Gaza that has also been designated a terrorist group by many world leaders. They are seen to be the de facto military wing for the Palestinian people, whether they are requesting assistance or acting on their own accord.

Wars are terrible and there can never be winners when innocent people and children are dying. No one gets everything they want in a negotiation, but everyone gets something they need, and until both nations have bold leaders that are transcendent, peace in the region is nothing but words for the “men” calling the shots to remain in power.
