UK PM Travels To The United Arab Emirates To Meet With Crown Prince

Prime Minister Boris Johnson met the Crown Prince of the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed bin Zayed al Nayhan

Russian imports account for 8% of total UK oil demand, but the UK is also a significant producer of both crude oil and petroleum products, in addition to imports from a diverse range of reliable suppliers beyond Russia including the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, and the USA.

With the invasion of Ukraine, UK Prime Minister Johnson plans to stop all imports from the authoritative regime by the end of the year. Russia’s economy has been crippled by the heavy sanctions imposed by Europe and the West, essentially cutting off any forms of funds coming into the Kremlin with the exception of revenues derived from oil.

If the UK is eliminating Russia’s oil imports, it needs to look to the Middle East, being they are the largest producers in the world with reserves and capacity to service the UK. Today Prime Minister Johnson met the Crown Prince of the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed bin Zayed al Nayhan, in Abu Dhabi.

The Prime Minister set out his deep concerns about the chaos unleashed by Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine and stressed the importance of working together to improve stability in the global energy market.

The leaders welcomed the longstanding partnership between our two countries and discussed opportunities to increase collaboration between the UK and UAE on energy security, green technology, and trade. They also agreed on the need to bolster security, defence and intelligence cooperation in the face of growing global threats, including from the Houthis in Yemen.

If the UK is to ween itself from Russian oil, it is imperative Johnson secures multiple commitments from the Arab States to increase production before returning back home.
