UK Government Invests Over £300 Million To Improve Teaching Qualifications

Prime Minister Johnson affirms support for new trainee teachers in high-demand subjects

Starting from 2022 to 2023, all fresh UK graduates will receive tax-free bursaries of up to £15,000 for training in subjects such as languages, geography, design, technology, and an additional £24,000 bursary or a £26,000 scholarship for teachers studying math, physics, chemistry and computing. These new initiatives were part of Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s push to recruit and retain top teachers.

Furthermore, the National Professional Qualifications (NPQs) will support existing teachers and school leaders in every area in the country to develop and improve qualifications at no additional costs. 

According to researchers, the quality of teaching is the most important factor that influences the outcomes of students in school. To support this, the Government is investing almost £200 million to improve the teaching profession by delivering 150,000 high-quality National professional qualifications (NPQs) over the next three years.
