Monday morning’s fire outbreak at the High Commission of Canada to Nigeria has left two persons dead, according to local media in Nigeria. The fire outbreak was confirmed by the Head of Operations of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service, Amiola Adebayo, Punch Newspapers reports.
Nkechi Isa, Head of Public Affairs of the FCT Emergency Management Agency, was quoted by Punch saying: “A diesel tank explosion in the generator house at the Canadian Embassy in the Federal Capital Territory has left two persons dead and two hospitalized at the National Hospital Trauma Center with severe burns. The Incident happened at about 10:45 (local Nigerian Time) AM today.” She further stated: “One of the power-generating sets was said to be working while the other one was being serviced. The fire occurred when the tank of diesel in the generator house, containing 2000 liters of diesel, exploded.”
The force of the explosion blew the dead victims out of the generator house, while one survivor escaped through the roof, witnesses told the Punch.
The Canadian High Commission in Abuja had yet to reply to an email message about the fire incident at the time of filing this report.
