France has is one of Canada’s close European allies and already have a good working relationship with Dion
Today Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, announced the appointment of the Honourable Stéphane Dion as Canada’s Ambassador to France. Dion currently serves as part of Trudeau’s special envoy to the European Union.
Dion was first elected in 1996 to the riding of Saint-Laurent and served seven terms as its Member of Parliament. He has held multiple high-profile cabinet positions throughout his lengthy career and a short stint as party leader from 2006 to 2008.

Dion replaces Isabelle Hudon, current CEO of the Business Development Bank of Canada and former Ambassador to France from 2017 to 2021. Although Dion has not publically come out and hinted he plans to retire from a life of politics, this could be the career politician’s last posting overseas.
