Toronto Reaches Another Major Vaccine Milestone

More than 80 per cent of residents 12 and older now fully vaccinated

Mayor John Tory announced that the City of Toronto and Team Toronto vaccination partners have now administered two doses of COVID-19 vaccine to more than 80 per cent of eligible Torontonians age 12 and older. To reach this exciting milestone, over 4.7 million vaccine doses have been administered demonstrating the incredible efforts of the City’s health and community partners and Torontonians’ commitment to protecting the city.

According to Toronto Public Health, 80.4 per cent of eligible Toronto residents have now received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. The latest data also shows that 85.6 per cent of eligible residents have received at least one dose.

“Toronto Public Health (TPH), our healthcare partners, and community agencies continue to work hard to remove barriers to vaccination and bring vaccines to where people are. Through city-run immunization clinics and mobile vaccination clinics, we are making it as convenient and easy as possible for anyone who wants to get vaccinated to do so. We urge everyone to start their vaccination series or get their second dose to complete it if they have not already done so. Said the TPH

The COVID-19 vaccine remains the best protection against serious illness, hospitalization and death. And while vaccination progress continues, all people in the city are urged to continue to follow public health measures and take steps for self-protection including watching your distance, wearing your mask and staying home when sick.

“Having more than 80 per cent of eligible residents vaccinated is a great step forward in our ongoing drive to get as many people as possible better protected against COVID-19. Thank you to every member of Team Toronto who is working non-stop to deliver vaccine doses. I also want to thank the millions of people who have stepped forward to do the right thing and get vaccinated. If you’re not vaccinated yet, please get vaccinated now to help protect yourself and all the progress we have made.” Said Mayor John Tory

While vaccination progress continues, all people in the city are urged to continue to follow public health measures, including staying home when sick, practising physical distancing and wearing a mask when physical distancing is not possible. Residents who exhibit any COVID-19 symptoms or have been in close contact with someone who has had COVID-19 should get tested as soon as possible.
