Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met today with His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan. The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties between Canada and Jordan, and Prime Minister Trudeau confirmed Canada’s support for Jordan’s efforts to cope with the impact of the regional conflicts in Iraq and Syria. They also underscored the importance of working together for stronger action on climate change and protecting nature.
Prime Minister Trudeau and King Abdullah discussed the Middle East peace process, as well as security in the wider Middle East region. They also discussed the importance of economic development in the region, including investments and opportunities in transportation and energy infrastructure.
Prime Minister Trudeau and King Abdullah pledged to work together to counter violent extremism and to promote diversity. The leaders look forward to the continued collaboration between Canada and Jordan on shared priorities.
