Bobby Hull, the legendary ice hockey player known as the “Golden Jet” for his long blonde hair, passed away on January 30, 2023, at 84. Born in Pointe Anne, Ontario, Hull was a trailblazer in ice hockey and a true game icon.
Hull began his professional career with the Chicago Blackhawks in 1957 and quickly established himself as one of the most dominant players in the league. With his powerful shot and blazing speed, Hull shattered records and earned numerous accolades during his 15-season career with the Blackhawks, including the Hart Trophy as the NHL’s Most Valuable Player in 1965 and 1966.
In 1972, Hull made history by signing a ten-year, $2.75 million contract with a one-million-dollar signing bonus which was a record at the time with the Winnipeg Jets of the World Hockey Association (WHA), becoming one of the first high-profile NHL players to jump to the rival league. In his first season with the Jets, Hull led the league in scoring and helped propel the team to a championship.
Throughout his career, Hull was known for his incredible speed, powerful shot, and his ability to elevate the play of his teammates. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1983 and was recognized as one of the 100 greatest NHL players of all time.
