The first case of a new coronavirus from China has been reported in the United States. A victim is a man who lives in Washington State. On January 15, he returned from the Chinese city of Wuhan, where the virus was first detected.
The US centers for disease control and prevention confirmed that the man was diagnosed with a coronavirus on January 20. The center’s experts expect new cases both in the United States and around the world.
The virus is transmitted from person to person
Chinese authorities have acknowledged that the virus can be transmitted from person to person. At least two cases of this infection have been reported outside hospitals: one in Guangdong and the other in Wuhan. It is also known about 14 cases of infection of doctors who assisted people affected by the 2019-nCoV virus.
How to protect yourself from coronavirus
The spread of the virus from Wuhan is compared to another coronavirus outbreak in China — SARS-CoV or SARS — in 2002-2003. Then about 800 patients died.
WHO will hold an emergency meeting of the Committee of experts on January 22 to assess whether the new virus poses a global threat. For now, the recommendations of the World Health Organization are to stay away from sneezing and coughing people and not to eat poorly processed (undercooked) meat. According to one version, the virus pathogen could be transmitted to people after eating some of the meat or seafood from the market in Wuhan.
Airports in the United States, Australia, Japan, and other countries have increased security measures in connection with the spread of coronavirus: airport employees use special frames and other devices to measure the temperature of arrivals from China and other “at-risk” countries. Similar checks were started at Russian and Belarusian airports.
