The Conservative US Supreme Court Is A Dangerous Threat To LGBTQ2S+ Rights

After overturning Roe v. Wade, the conservative-dominated US Supreme court is calling for more cases that will restrict or abolish the rights that are explicitly granted within the constitution

The overturning of Roe v Wade which was said to be settled law was incredibly disappointing to most Americans. The impact of Roe v. Wade does not only affect the female community, but the outcome also affects the LGBTQ+ community.

Obergefell v. Hodges is similar to Roe v. Wade’s decision that gave same-sex marriage a constitutionally protected right. Like Roe v. Wade, the result of this jurisprudence is equally unconventional.

The lead plaintiff in Obergefell v. Hodges, Obergefell, stated, “It just has me concerned that marriage and L.G.B.T.Q. rights, in general, are at risk, much like we’re seeing the rights of pregnant people and women are being taken away,”

When Roe v. Wade was overturned, the Court stated that the Constitution did not grant abortion as a right and that the right to abortion was not deeply rooted in the nation’s history and traditions. Many of the rights and accepted values the Constitution did not explicitly grant would not be protected and recognized. Similarly, same-sex marriage is not tied to the nation’s history and traditions. The outcome of Roe v. Wade will likely threaten jurisprudence such as this, which is inconsistent with conservative values.

The impact of Roe v. Wade is not just on abortion; he symbolizes the victory of a conservative majority on the Court. Jason Pierce, a political scientist at the University of Illinois, argues that a court with a conservative majority is unlikely to stop abortion. Likewise, conservatives will not stop at issues inconsistent with traditional values.” They are sending signals to the conservative legal movement, which has a lot of momentum right now because of this victory, to keep going and to keep bringing cases to them over the next several years that will give them opportunities to go further,” said Jason Pierceso

A conservative-dominated court is not a cluster, as Trump appointed three conservative justices, Brett Kavanaugh, Amy Coney Barrett, and Neil Gorsuch, when he was president of the U.S. And judges are appointed for life, which means there will be a long time in the future when the conservative wing of the Supreme Court will This means that the conservative wing of the Supreme Court will have the upper hand for a long time to come.

Obergefell said, “It makes me angry that there are still people in this nation, including a Supreme Court justice, vehemently opposed to L.G.B.T.Q. equality and our right to commit legally and publicly to the person we love the most, and our right to form a family, and to have those relationships and those families protected and respected by our government.”

There is no doubt that the conservative-dominated courts and related legislation have caused a rift with the liberal public. The various protests against Roe v. Wade are continuing, and the conservative legal movement will not stop there.
