Sanna Marin At The Age of 34 Appointed Finlands Youngest Prime Minister

The Finnish Parliament has elected Sanna Marin as the 76th Prime Minister of independent Finland. Next, the President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö will accept the resignation of Antti Rinne’s Government ministers and appoint the new ministers.

Finland’s last incumbent prime minister was Antti Rinne of the Social Democratic Party until he resigned on 3 December 2019. On 8 December 2019, Sanna Marin was appointed prime minister of Finland. When she is sworn in at age 34, she will be the youngest prime minister in Finland’s history.

This historic day has shattered the proverbial glass ceiling for women politicians. With Prime Minister Marin leading the charge of powerful women, she will be flanked by women in government heading all five major political parties. Li Andersson, 32, leads the Left Alliance; and Anna-Maja Henriksson, 55, leads the Swedish People’s Party of Finland; Katri Kulmuni, 32, leads the Centre Party; Maria Ohisalo, 34, leads the Green League;

After that, the Government will convene to its first plenary session, the constitutive session, where it will decide on the division of responsibilities between the ministers, on the ministerial deputies and on the composition of ministerial committees.
