Rittenhouse Not Guilty Verdict, Confirms Two Justice System In America

Kenosha jury acquits Kyle Rittenhouse on all charges

For years it has been widely known there are two justice systems in America. One for the rich and poor and another for minorities and Caucasians. If you happened to fall in the camp of being rich and white, it appears you can do no wrong in America.

Rittenhouse is a white privileged teen with the backing of rich friends and celebrities who have made him their muse. The fact he was able to walk around the city with his deadly rifle after killing two people and injuring another, only confirms the justice system in America.

If this was a black man in America that did the unspeakable things he did, he would have been killed on the spot by police, and not been given water by them after he pulled the trigger several times.

On August 25, 2020, Rittenhouse who was 17 at the time, crossed states lines carrying an illegally obtained deadly assault rifle to Kenosha Wisconsin amidst the protest of another white police officer shooting an unarmed Black man name Jacob Blake.

Blake was shot close range seven times by officer Rusten Sheskey which left him paralyzed. Sheskey, who was later cleared for the shooting, opened fire on Blake right in front of his two young kids as he was walking to his car. The shooting set off a major protest in Kenosha and saw many white supremacist groups and former President Trump fan the flames of racism which led to acts of violence and chaos.

According to Rittenhouse, he fled to Kenosha to protect local businesses from violent protesters, in which many of them were white supremacist groups that came to the town for the sake of causing violence and chaos. As a result, Rittenhouse, who was armed with a deadly AR-15 assault rifle, ended up shooting and killing two men, Anthony Huber and Joseph Rosenbaum and injuring Gaige Grosskreutz. According to Rittenhouse’s attorney, he acted in self-defence.

The defence attorney was able to successfully make the case of self-defence to a jury who at times seemed to have received confusing instructions from the judge. They acquitted Rittenhouse of all felony charges and he avoided a life sentence rotting in a prison cell.

After the killings, Rittenhouse turned himself to the police on August 26, where he was set to trial and faced the following charges:

• first-degree reckless homicide against Joseph Rosenbaum
• first-degree recklessly endangering safety against Richard McGinnis
• first-degree intentional homicide against Anthony Huber
• attempted first-degree intentional homicide against Gaige Grosskreutz
• first-degree recklessly endangering safety against an unknown male victim
• possession of a dangerous weapon by a person under 18

On Friday 19, and after four days of deliberations, the jury has reached a final verdict; not guilty on all counts.

Gun laws in America continue to be one of the most troubling issues facing the country. The government must find an effective legal action that wouldn’t make it easily accessible for just about anybody to own guns, let alone a 17-year-old. The indolence towards gun laws is something that must be dealt with in order to ensure the people’s safety and to change the violent culture of the Second Amendment.

Until those laws and the American justice system change, there will always be a copious amount of Rittenhouse’s waiting in the wings.
