Ring In The New Year Returns Free Transit Offered On New Year’s Eve

SGI team up with the City of Regina to offer safe rides for new years eve

Ringing in the new year is a time of celebration, however, too often it ends in tragedy. Alcohol and drugs are the primary causes of avoidable vehicle crashes and loss of lives. For decades, municipalities have been partnering with local transit groups to provide free rides to citizens to and from their events.

As 2021 turns into 2022, SGI and Regina Transit are pleased to partner once again to offer free transit and paratransit services on New Year’s Eve with Wing in the New Year.

“New Year’s Eve will look different this year for many people, but the focus on preventing impaired driving is one thing that hasn’t changed,” said Minister Responsible for SGI Don Morgan. “SGI is pleased to partner with Regina Transit to offer people a safe, convenient, free option for people to get home. Whatever you do this New Year’s Eve, make sure you have a plan for a safe ride home.”

This free bus service runs from 7 p.m. on December 31 until 2:15 a.m. on January 1. More than 3,000 Regina residents typically use transit services through Wing in the New Year.

“When planning your New Year celebrations with family and friends, please make the responsible choice and plan a safe ride home,” said Regina Mayor Sandra Masters. “With the Wing in the New Year free bus service offered by Regina Transit and SGI, we are making it easy for everyone to have a safe ride home. Please do your part to keep our community safe. As we head into 2022, I wish all Regina residents a happy New Year.”

Regina Transit has several options for residents to plan their routes this New Year’s Eve. Visit TransitLive.comOpens in new window to see real-time schedules and bus routes or call the RideLine at 306-777-RIDE (7433) for more information.
