Conception Bay is one of twenty new coast guard ships to being built in Canadian waters
Canadian Coast Guard Ship Conception Bay (CCGS) is one of twenty high-endurance search and rescue lifeboats being built under the National Shipbuilding Strategy and as part of the Canadian Coast Guard’s fleet renewal planning.
The Bay Class vessels have been named after bays across Canada, with the CCGS Conception Bay being named after a prominent bay in Newfoundland and Labrador.
These 19 metre, 62.5 tonne vessels have cruising speeds of 14 and a half knots, and top speeds of 23 and a half knots. They are high-endurance vessels capable of traveling 120 nautical miles offshore, with the ability to self-right if capsized.
