RCMP Seize 100Kg Of Meth In Surrey B.C

CBSA and RCMP disrupt smuggling operation at Pacific Highway border, keeping 100 kg of meth off the streets

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) remain committed to keeping our communities safe from the smuggling of illicit narcotics. Today, the CBSA and RCMP announced the interception of 100 kilograms of methamphetamine, protecting the safety and security of Canadians.

On October 18, 2021, a solo traveller arrived at the Pacific Highway Traffic Operations in Surrey, British Columbia. Border services officers conducted primary screening and as they proceeded to inspect the vehicle, the traveller fled the port of entry at high speed.

“The outstanding partnership between the CBSA and the RCMP contributed greatly to the success of this intercept, which prevented 100 kilograms of methamphetamine from entering our communities. We are extremely proud of such work by our officers, which contributes directly to protecting Canadians and disrupting criminal schemes.”

– Rahul Coelho, Chief, Pacific Highway Traffic Operations, Pacific Region, Canada Border Services Agency

“Strong partnerships with other government departments and police agencies are critical to the maintenance of border integrity. This investigation highlights the excellent collaboration and working relationship with our key partner, the CBSA. It’s because of the high level of communication with them, that we are able to keep the border secure and protect our communities from the importation of these harmful illicit substances.”

– Inspector Jim Leonard, Acting Officer in Charge of the BC RCMP Federal Serious and Organized Crime Border Integrity program

The CBSA alerted the RCMP and shortly afterwards, the vehicle was intercepted and the traveller was returned to the port of entry for further examination. Upon inspection of the traveller’s vehicle, border services officers found several large commercially sealed bags containing a white crystalline substance in the trunk. A CBSA detector dog indicated positive for narcotics and the traveller was subsequently arrested for fleeing the port of entry and snuggling under the Customs Act.

A total of 100 kilograms of methamphetamine was seized.

The CBSA Pacific Region Intelligence Section provided support throughout the enforcement action and liaised with the BC RCMP Federal Serious and Organized Crime (FSOC) Border Enforcement Team. The CBSA transferred the suspect and drugs to the RCMP FSOC unit for further criminal investigation.

The RCMP FSOC investigation is ongoing.
