Police watchdog investigating the incident
Treaty Five Territory, Thompson, MB – Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak (MKO) Inc. is aware of an officer-involved shooting that took place in Thompson, Manitoba this afternoon. Videos of the incident are currently circulating on social media.
Grand Chief Garrison Settee states:
“I am extremely concerned to see the video of an MKO citizen who appears to have been shot by an RCMP officer today in Thompson, Manitoba. The video that is circulating is extremely disturbing.
On behalf of Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak, I want to let the family and loved ones of this person know that our prayers and thoughts are with you at this time.
My office has been in touch with the Thompson RCMP and we are expecting a full report about what took place today in Thompson. The Independent Investigations Unit will be required in this incident. We are praying that the young person involved in this incident will survive and receive the support needed to heal from this.”
