Prince Charles kicked off his 2022 Royal Tour yesterday with his first stop in Newfoundland

To celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, marking the 70th anniversary on the throne, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall will visit three Canadian provinces, Newfoundland and Labrador, Ottawa, and the Northwest Territories.
Prince Charles arrived in Canada at 1.30 pm yesterday and was greeted with a welcoming ceremony at the Federal Building and visited the Government House. The Prince and Duchess met and prayed with members of the Indigenous community, reflected at Heart Gardens for aboriginal children suffering in the boarding system, and met with the Campaign for Wool Canada representatives. They then visited Quidi Vidi Village, including The Wharf and Quidi Vidi Brewery.
The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall have now arrived in Ottawa for a full day of activities. They will perform the Medal Ceremony and visit the National War Memorial Ceremony in the morning, which honours Canada’s veterans and active service members. Afterward, they will meet with the Ukrainian community and organizations at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral and offer a show of support for people back in their homeland. The Royal couple will get a chance to hear stories from community members as they reflect on the Ukrainian culture’s contributions to Canada.
Prince Charles will visit Assumption Elementary School in Vanier in the afternoon and talk to students, teachers, and parents about reading. They will also speak to organizations that help new immigrants in both languages. At the same time, Prince Charles will visit the RCMP Musical Ride and discuss its contribution to resettling Afghan women refugees in Canada with the Birds Foundation. They will also discuss employment and sustainability with Prince’s Trust Canada Program participants and meet again with Prime Minister Trudeau before gathering to discuss the importance of sustainable finances, climate change, and building a net-zero economy.
The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will meet with the Honourable Mary Simon, Governor-General of Canada, and attend a special dinner at Rideau Hall.
The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will make their way to Yellowknife and Dettah on the final leg of their visit. They will visit aboriginal communities, transitional housing centers, and the Northern Heritage Centre to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Rangers and proceed to the Ceremonial Circle for a Platinum Jubilee Celebration.
