Victor Boudreau brings over 30 years of dedicated service to the people of New Brunswick. His extensive career in public service includes significant roles such as Chief Administrative Officer of the Town of Shediac and ministerial positions within the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick. His ministerial responsibilities spanned several key portfolios, including Finance, Economic Development, and Health. A proud Acadian, Boudreau is well-regarded in his community for his volunteer work with numerous organizations, such as the Comfort Life Network and the Rotary Club of Shediac.
Prime Minister Trudeau expressed confidence in Boudreau’s ability to contribute effectively to the Senate, stating, “Mr. Boudreau’s experience in a broad range of portfolios will be a great benefit to the Senate. I am confident that he will continue to be a strong voice for New Brunswick, Atlantic Canada, and Canadians from coast to coast to coast.”
Boudreau’s journey in politics and public service began with roles such as Village Administrator of Cap-Pelé, Researcher and Departmental Chief of Staff in the provincial government and federal constituency assistant. In 2004, he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, representing the riding of Shediac-Beaubassin-Cap-Pelé. Over the years, he served as minister of Finance, Economic Development, the Regional Development Corporation, and Health. He also held the position of interim Leader of the Liberal Party of New Brunswick and was a member of the International Association of French-speaking Parliamentarians.
In addition to his political career, Boudreau has been a committed volunteer. He has worked with the Beauséjour Family Crisis Resource Centre, Shediac Hospice, Shediac Lions Club, and the Cap‑Pelé Chamber of Commerce. He has also served as President of the Rotary Club of Shediac and participated in various fundraising and board initiatives, including the Louis-J.-Robichaud Foundation’s Chances campaign and the New Brunswick Medical Education Foundation.
Boudreau’s dedication to public service has been recognized with the Louis-J.-Robichaud Medal. He holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences from the Université de Moncton.
The Senate of Canada is the Upper House in the country’s parliamentary democracy, designed to represent regional interests and provide a platform for historically underrepresented groups. In 2016, the process for selecting senators was reformed to be open to all Canadians. Candidates are reviewed by the Independent Advisory Board for Senate Appointments, which makes recommendations to the Prime Minister based on merit-based criteria.
To date, Prime Minister Trudeau has made 82 independent Senate appointments, all recommended by the Advisory Board. The Governor General formally appoints individuals to the Senate based on the Prime Minister’s advice.
Boudreau’s appointment marks another step in ensuring the Senate remains a diverse and representative body, poised to address the needs and interests of all Canadians.
