Paul Hodgkins Jan 6th Insurrectionist, Sentenced to Eight Months in Prison

Hodgkins becomes the first over 500 Insurrectionist to be sentenced to prison for their role in violent attack on the US Capitol

Paul Hodgkins, a Florida man that made it onto the Senate floor carrying a TRUMP flag on January 6th the day the deadly insurrection took place at the US Capitol, has been sentenced to eight months in prison.

Hodgkins, a loyal Trump sycophant is one of the millions that do not believe Joe Biden legally won the election to become the 46th President of the United States. After the votes were counted, Joe Biden was declared the president as he had won the electoral college and the popular vote. Although that was the case, Trump and his loyalists declared victory as they alleged voter fraud without providing any evidence.

Hodgkins had previously pleaded guilty to a single felony count of obstruction of an official proceeding. He had also been ordered to pay a fine of $2,000 in restoration for damages caused to the building followed by 24 months of supervision after his release from prison.

Hodgkins was one of many who made it to the Senate floor where he spent 15 minutes taking pictures and branding the TRUMP flag. His actions, among others, were one of the reasons the Senate had to evacuate and postpone the certification of Electoral votes. Federal guidelines stated that Hodgkins could have faced up to 21 months in prison and a fine of $250,000. He claims he never had the intention of entering the Capitol that day and was just swept up in the march.

“I can say without a shadow of a doubt that I am truly remorseful and regretful for my actions in Washington,” Hodgkins told the court. “This was a foolish decision on my part that I take full responsibility for it.”

Hodgkins’ had no prior criminal record or serious history of violence and destruction of property. He pleads guilty hoping for a more lenient sentence.

“It is essential to send a message that this type of conduct is utterly unacceptable, and that grave damage was done to our country that day,” Moss said. “At the same time, I do not believe that Mr. Hodgkins – other than having made some very bad decisions that day and done some really bad things that day that did some real damage to the country – that he is a threat or that he is inherently an evil person.”

At least 500 were arrested that day and the Justice Department is working on charging and sentencing everyone involved.
