Saint John East MLA Glen Savoie, who is Government House Leader, will move the acceptance of the throne speech during the opening of the third session of the 59th legislature on Tuesday, Nov. 19. The motion will be seconded by Hampton MLA Gary Crossman.
“I am proud to be joined by Gary to help begin our third legislative session,” said Savoie. “Our government has been engaging with New Brunswickers from all walks of life and listening closely to their concerns for our province. During this session, we plan to deliver for New Brunswick by focusing on our key priorities.
“We will lay out the path forward to establish an affordable and responsible government; ensure all New Brunswickers have access to dependable public health care; provide our children with a world-class education; develop an energized private sector; create vibrant and sustainable communities; and transform government into high-performing organization.”
Savoie was first elected to the legislative assembly on Sept. 27, 2010. He is also the chair of the standing committee on Crown corporations and the standing committee on estimates and fiscal policy, and vice-chair of the standing committee on procedure, privileges and legislative officers.
During his time in the legislature, he has been named legislative secretary to the Minister of Economic Development, responsible for business development. He has served on the legislature’s standing committee on public accounts, the standing committee on private bills and the select committee on Point Lepreau. Savoie was a key member in the formation of the legislative review committee, where he served as vice-chair and then chair of the committee. He has also been the Opposition critic for natural resources and seniors and has served as the Opposition deputy house leader.
Before being elected, Savoie worked as a business service technician for Bell Aliant. He continues to be active in his community, working with young people in various sports activities.
Crossman was first elected to the legislative assembly on Sept. 22, 2014.
Prior to being elected, Crossman worked for more than three decades as an educator and administrator in New Brunswick’s education system. Following his retirement as the principal of Sussex Elementary School in 2010, he was elected to Hampton Town Council as deputy mayor in 2012. Crossman has also represented the Hampton area as a representative on the District Education Council for Anglophone South, and served on the board of directors for Sussex Health Centre Services Inc.
Crossman has been a member of the Hampton Community Centre board of directors and the Town of Hampton planning advisory committee, and has served on the executive of the Hampton Soccer Association. He has coached various sports for many years and continues to be an active volunteer at the Hampton Food Basket.
