Despite this, some still believe that more guns will make America safer and are unwilling to impose strict gun laws. One such person is Oklahoma State Senator Nathan Dahm, who is known for his extreme views on gun ownership. Moreover, his recent appearances on the John Stewart show highlight the alarming views of American politicians regarding gun ownership.

Senator Dahm believes that more guns in circulation will make America safer, and he is willing to stop at nothing to protect the rights of gun owners. He opposes background checks, waiting periods, permits, and registration, arguing that these measures infringe on the Second Amendment rights of gun owners. He believes that guns are not the problem but rather that bad people are the problem, and he does not want any basic sensible gun laws in place.

These views are dangerous and completely out of touch with the realities of gun violence in America. With over 400 million guns in circulation, America is a cesspool for gun violence and leads the world in this tragic statistic. On average, there are 1.5 mass shootings per day, yet Senator Dahm insists that adding more guns will somehow make us safer.

The truth is that America is not safe when it comes to gun violence, and at any point, a mass shooting could occur. This is evidenced by the increasing number of gun-related deaths and injuries each year. According to the Gun Violence Archive, there were 70,000 gun-related incidents in the United States in 2021, resulting in death or injuries.

Of these incidents, there were 693 mass shootings, defined as incidents in which four or more people are shot, not including the shooter. These mass shootings resulted in 703 deaths and 2,842 injuries. It is important to note that these statistics only account for reported incidents, and the actual numbers may be higher.

In addition to mass shootings, there are also numerous other forms of gun violence in America, including domestic violence, gang violence, and suicide. Each of these forms of violence is devastating in its own way, and each is made worse by the easy availability of guns in America.

Despite the clear evidence of the harm caused by guns in America, there are still those like Senator Dahm who refuse to acknowledge the problem. They argue that guns are not the problem, but that bad people are the problem and that more guns in circulation will make America safer.

This argument is deeply flawed, however. It assumes that all people are equally responsible and that there is no correlation between gun ownership and gun violence. This is simply not the case. Numerous studies have shown that more guns in circulation lead to more gun-related deaths and injuries. In fact, a study by the American Journal of Public Health found that states with more guns had higher rates of gun deaths.

In addition, the argument that bad people are the problem assumes that there is no way to prevent bad people from obtaining guns. This is also false. Background checks, waiting periods, permits, and registration are all measures that have been proven to prevent criminals and other dangerous individuals from obtaining guns.

Opponents of these measures argue that they infringe on the Second Amendment rights of gun owners. However, the Second Amendment does not allow individuals to own any type of gun they want without any restrictions or regulations. It is up to lawmakers to balance the rights of gun owners with the need to protect public safety.

This is where people like Senator Dahm fail. They prioritize the rights of gun owners over the safety of innocent people, refusing to acknowledge that there is a crisis in America when it comes to gun violence. They refuse to consider even the most basic, sensible gun laws that could prevent gun-related deaths and injuries.

The idea that more guns lead to greater safety is absurd and goes against all evidence and logic. Senator Dahm’s beliefs and actions, which many lawmakers, unfortunately, share in the Republican Party, reflect a lack of responsibility toward the safety and well-being of the American people.

It is clear that the unwillingness of some lawmakers to impose sensible gun laws is due to their fear of angering the powerful gun makers, NRA, and lobbyists who hold sway over them with campaign donations. This unacceptable situation undermines the democratic process and puts the lives of innocent Americans at risk.

The problem is not with guns themselves but with the availability of guns in the wrong hands, such as criminals, domestic abusers, or those with mental health issues. It is time for lawmakers to prioritize the safety and wellbeing of the American people over the interests of special interest groups. Spineless elected officials who serve the interests of these groups rather than the people who elected them have no place in public office.

The tragic reality is that until there is the real political will to confront the urgent gun crisis in America, preventable gun violence will continue to claim the lives of innocent people. It is up to all of us to demand action from our elected officials and hold them accountable for their inaction. The lives of Americans and the safety of communities depend on it.
