Minister Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne’s To Represent France At The G20 Sumit In Japan

Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, Minister of State attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, is taking part in the G20 Meeting of Foreign Affairs Ministers in Nagoya, Japan, from November 22-23; the meeting will focus on international trade and global governance, the Sustainable Development Goals and Africa.

The minister of state will reaffirm France’s commitment to a just and equitable rules-based multilateral trade system, of which the World Trade Organization will be the guarantor. He will call for swift progress based on the proposals put forward over the last few months, notably by the EU, in order to build on the current momentum with respect to the reform of the international trade system, to which the heads of state and government committed during the G20 meeting in Osaka in June 2019 and then at the G7 summit in Biarritz in August 2019. France will also highlight the regulatory challenges related to the digital economy, notably in the areas of corporate tax, artificial intelligence and data protection.

With respect to development challenges and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, France will focus in particular on the need for ambitious climate and environmental goals just a few days ahead of the COP25 in Madrid, which will be a critical moment in order to take stock of the implementation of the Paris climate accord.

Lastly, the minister of state will highlight France’s commitment to the security and development of the African continent, in keeping with the initiatives of the French presidency of the G7 and the initiatives adopted at the summit in Biarritz (August 24 to 26, 2019), including the Sahel Partnership Action Plan and support for women entrepreneurs through the Affirmative Finance Action for Women in Africa (AFAWA) initiative.
