Michael Regan of the United States Environmental Protection Agency to Speak on Environmental Commitments to Africa

On Monday, January 29, 2024, the last day of his mission to Mozambique and Ghana, Administrator Michael S. Regan of the US Environmental Protection Agency will brief the press on the EPA’s steadfast commitments to Africa. The media conversation is scheduled as a digital press briefing and will address environmental concerns shared by the United States and African countries.
This interactive and flexible press briefing will take place digitally via Zoom and will entertain questions from journalists worldwide before and during the event. It will be held by 10:30 Am Johannesburg time, 8:30 Am GMT.
“During the press briefing, Administrator Regan will announce commitments that EPA is making to share solutions on a range of environmental priorities in Africa,” US Africa Media Hub said. It also added:
• The announcements will include initiatives to protect clean air.
• Encourage the responsible mining of critical minerals.
• Improve recycling of materials from plastic and electronic waste.
• The briefing will encourage collaboration between schools in America and Ghana to foster cultural and environmental exchange of information.
Michael S. Regan is the first Black man and second person of color to spearhead the EPA. He has a professional background rooted in environmental work. Among other distinguished accomplishments, he previously served as the Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) before his appointment as the 16th Administrator of the EPA on March 11, 2021.
