Manitoba Continues To Quickly Vaccinate Against COVID-19

The Manitoban Government has reached staggering lows in their COVID-19 numbers, successfully vaccinating a large portion of the population.

The Manitoba governments message get Manitobans vaccinated has been clear, effective and continues to yield excellent results. As of July 23, 2021, there remain only 537 active cases with as little as 41 new ones today. This puts the province at a test positivity rate of three percent. This is aided by a high vaccination rate, among the highest in the country. Currently, over 79.6% of Manitobans 12 and up have received their first dose and over 64.5% have received their second. By Terry Fox Day (August 2, 2021), Manitoba hoped to have 75% eligible citizens have their first vaccination and 50% be fully vaccinated. By now, Manitobans are set to achieve their Labour Day (September 6, 2021) goals months ahead of schedule. 80% having their first dose and 75% with their second looks more possible each day.

With such high vaccination rates, Manitobans have been treated to many loosened restrictions. For one, fully vaccinated patrons are allowed to eat inside restaurants. Non-fully vaccinated patrons are still able to eat at their favourite restaurants if they remain outdoors. As well, faith-based organizations and events may open to 50% capacity or 150 people, whichever is lower. Finally, and most notably, large-scale sports or performing arts events outdoors can open up to 100% capacity. This allows for the Goldeyes to play on August 3, 2021, and the Blue Bombers to play on August 5, 2021, in front of full, boisterous, and fully vaccinated crowds.

Discussions are now underway to allow fully vaccinated people to visit casinos and museums. For a full list of new restrictions go to the Manitoba Government website.

Supersites and pop-up clinics alike have been active in their distribution of vaccinations. It is projected that from July 19 to July 25, 2021, over 99,000 vaccines will have been distributed. Dr. Roussin continues to remind Manitobans that COVID-19 is still of grand importance. He encourages handwashing and diligence to ensure safety. But thankfully, the exceptional vaccination rates in the province lead to hope that a somewhat normal livelihood may come this year.
