Manitoba’s COVID-19 Crisis exceeds the national average

Manitoba’s COVID-19 cases have reached a staggering level of 9.2 per cent and 441 new cases of the virus have been identified as of 9:30 a.m., which brings the total lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba to 8,130.

Manitoba has the highest rate of infection per capita in the country and concerned citizens are calling for the resignation of Health, Seniors and Active Living Minister Cameron Friesen.

Manitoba In Crisis - Major Covid-19 Spikes

While other provinces are spending the funds received from the Federal Government for the Safe Restart Agreement due to COVID-19, Manitobans feel the current administration has been slow to act on distributing those funds in a timely manner to the municipalities.

In today’s press conference with the Minister of Health, he indicated the formation of several new committees to tackle the coronavirus. The minister is also under heightened scrutiny to address the growing concerns about the rising death tolls in Manitoba Nursing Homes. In one instance, a seniors home is under investigation for an alleged homicide.

While Winnipeg is still under Code Red, Public health officials are urging citizens to remain home and avoid large gatherings to prevent the further spread of the virus. Anyone who is symptomatic, or has a household member who is symptomatic, the entire household needs to self-isolate pending COVID-19 test results.
