US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Dead at 87

Trump has named Texas Senator Ted Cruz to his short list to replace Justice Ginsburg

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg born Joan Ruth Bader, March 15, 1933 and died on September 18, 2020) of complications from metastatic cancer of the pancreas.

Justice Ginsburg was nominated by President Clinton on June 14, 1993 and was confirmed by the Senate August 10, 1993. Ginsburg was the second of four female justices to ever serve on the US Supreme Court.

Ginsburg spent a considerable part of her legal career as an advocate for the advancement of gender equality and women’s rights, winning multiple arguments before the Supreme Court. She advocated as a volunteer attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union and was a member of its board of directors and one of its general counsels in the 1970s.

With the death of Justice Ginsburg, the Trump administration will undoubtedly use this opportunity to appoint another justice prior to the November 2020 election.

Since the Republicans have control of the Senate, Trumps pick for confirmation is all but a formality. Just days ago, Trump released his short list of possible replacement justices, which includes several eye raising choices and most notably Texas Senator Ted Cruz.

The death of Ginsburg will be used by Trump as political ploy to prop up his support with pro choice voters in wake of his slumping polling. Her passing will also be used by the Trump administration to divert attention from the fact the coronavirus has killed over 200,000 Americans on his watch.
