Jaime Battiste, MP For Sydney-Victoria, The New Chair Of The Indigenous Caucus

OTTAWA, ON — The Liberal Indigenous Caucus announced during the Christmas sitting of Parliament the election of Jaime Battiste, MP for Sydney-Victoria as the Chair of the Indigenous Caucus. He takes over from co-chairs MPs Marc Serré and Robert-Falcon Ouellette.

Founded in 2016 by MP Don Rusnak, the Indigenous Liberal Caucus was created as a forum for Indigenous Members of Parliament to work together to advocate for the well-being of Indigenous Peoples across Canada.

Other members of the caucus include Minister of Northern Affairs, Honourable. Dan Vandal from St. Boniface-St. Vital, MP Vance Badeway from Niagara Centre, MP Yvonne Jones from Labrador-Newfoundland, MP Marc Serré from Nickel Belt, and MP Michael McLeod from Northwest Territories. They have been elected from coastal, northern, remote, and urban areas, and represent a broad cross-section of who Indigenous people are.
