On December 31, 2024, Saskatchewan Penitentiary staff discovered during the 9:30 p.m. count that Glen Fredrick Richard Halkett, a 29-year-old inmate, was unaccounted for. The incident occurred within the institution’s minimum-security unit, triggering an immediate response from Correctional Service Canada (CSC) and the issuance of a warrant for Halkett’s arrest.
Halkett, who is serving a sentence of nearly three years for multiple offenses, including break and enter, possession of stolen property, motor vehicle theft, and other criminal activities, is described as 173 cm (5′ 8″) tall, weighing 76 kg (168 lbs), with a fair complexion, brown eyes, and black hair. Notable identifying features include tattoos on his neck and under his left eye.
The Correctional Service of Canada promptly notified the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Prince Albert and is collaborating closely to locate the inmate. In addition, CSC has initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Halkett’s escape to understand how the breach occurred.
Authorities are urging the public to assist in locating Halkett and have asked anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact the police. The safety and security of the community remain a priority, and efforts to apprehend the inmate are ongoing.
As the investigation unfolds, questions about potential security lapses within the minimum-security unit are likely to surface, highlighting the need for a thorough review of protocols and safeguards to prevent future incidents of this nature.
