One of the greatest boxing stars of all time, Manny (Pac Man) Pacquiao, is well known for winning boxing titles in more weight classes than any other boxer in history, and for his charitable work in the Filipino community. Pacquiao has recently announced he will seek the office of the Philippine presidency in 2022.
“I’m a fighter, and I will always be a fighter inside and outside the ring,” “We need the government to serve our people with integrity, compassion, and transparency.” Said Pacquiao.
He recently shared a tweet that implies his intention of retiring from the boxing ring and followed it up in an interview with Toni Talks on Youtube reaffirming his boxing career is over.
Pacquiao has been serving as a Senator in the Philippines since 2016 and now intends to seek the highest office in the country. “I want to rid the country of corruption while I am in the government.” Said Pacquiao, He emphasized his intentions of eliminating poverty and fighting for people’s rights, and to imprison those that violate the law, especially corrupt government officials.
In spite of that, some critics anticipate Pacquiao’s reluctance to retire, and he may still return to the ring regardless of what he said. If he does win the office of the presidency, his retirement is all but a formality.
