Horgan’s snap election gamble paid off with a majority win
For the first time in over twenty years, British Columbia’s NDP will form government. With a convincing win in last night’s provincial election, Horgan’s NDP won 55 out of a possible 87 seats.
The Green Party under rookie leader Sonia Furstenau retained officially party status with the election of three MPP’s to B.C Legislature. Furstenau failed to capitalize on her debate victory just weeks ago.
A snap election did the rookie leader no help as her party appeared to scramble to field a full slate of candidates. In snap elections, smaller parties tend to have limited resources and opt to use paper candidates to fill an election slate. We will get a be idea of who were the possible paper candidates once all candidates have filed their election returns.
The Liberals suffered an embarrassing defeating resulting in a major reduction of seats from 41 to 29. Under Andrew Wilkinson, the party has failed to connect with voters in his two years as leader. Wilkinson will not concede until the final mailing votes have been casted.
Wilkinson is a seasonal politicians but also lacks the charisma to leader the party into the next election. He will most likely be replaced when the party holds their next leadership review.
