Heritage Minister Guilbeault Is Headed To the Ballet

WINNIPEG – The Honourable Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Canadian Heritage, will arrive in Winnipeg on Saturday, January 18th, a day before the Liberal Cabinet retreat. The minister will meet with members of the arts and sports community which will then conclude with tours of the Canadian Sport Centre, Winnipeg Art Gallery and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet.

Since elected in 2015, the Liberal government has made significant investments in the arts sector. In 2018 Heritage Minister Joly invested $125 million over five years for the development of domestic art programs and in 2016, added another $15 million in funding for the expansion of the Winnipeg Art Gallery.

2019 saw Federal MP Robert-Falcon Ouellette announced $1.5 million in funding for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet over two years along with additional funding for the School of Contemporary Dance. 

Canadian Heritage will continue to play a vital role in the cultural, civic and economic life of Canadians. Arts, culture and heritage represent more than $53 billion in the Canadian economy and close to 666,500 jobs in sectors such as film and video, broadcasting, music, publishing, archives, performing arts, heritage institutions, festivals and celebrations.
