Today America turns 246 years old
Today Americans celebrate Independence Day. A day not only to celebrate but also a day to be used to reflect on the country’s past and set a course for a more inclusive future.
For the last two years, gathering together in a festive atmosphere standing shoulder to shoulder, was not allowed. And now that things are returning to normal, a celebration is precisely what the country needs.
Although Independence Day has traditionally been used to celebrate, many in the nation may not feel the need to do so as they search for ways to reconcile with the country’s dark history and honor those fighting for justice and equality.
2022 is the year we hope America takes another step closer to reconciliation, a year closer to ensuring all Americans can live freely without the fear of not feeling accepted or marginalized.
