Goodbye 2020, The World Will Not Miss You

Hope, Vaccines, Peace, Love and Humanity. 2021 The World Is Counting On You!

2020 has been a hell of a year. Australia was ablaze, threats of war between Iran and America proliferated, and a pandemic was brewing all in the first couple months.

Unnecessary injuries and deaths as a result of police brutality have become more noticeable in our society during 2020. Furthermore, cracks in our medical system and it’s inability to handle the needs of a global pandemic became noticeable.

Goodbye 2020, The World Will Not Miss You

As we enter 2021, we can hope that this year will not be as terrible as the last, but we must still acknowledge that the effects of the past are influential to our future.

Despite it being a new year, climate change is still an issue, police brutality still exist in disproportionate numbers in the black and indigenous communities and the COVID-19 pandemic is still a threat to the world economy and population.

2020 has been one of the hottest years on record, even with factories, mines, and forms of transportation shutting down for a portion of the year due to the global pandemic.

Goodbye 2020, The World Will Not Miss You

The 2021 year is not looking optimistic for the climate if we act in a manner similar to that of last year’s. Protests against police brutality, demanding justice for the hundreds who have suffered persecution and discrimination at the hands of dictators are all social issues that remain prevalent in the new year.

Then there is the pandemic, as many countries begin to distribute vaccines, entire populations won’t be vaccinated in the best case scenarios until the end of fall meaning, masks and physical distancing are still a necessity.

We may make our resolutions to exercise daily or eat healthier, yet let’s be honest, we’ll forget these by the third week of January. What goals we truly should set for ourselves in 2021 are to be informed, be sustainable, and be safe.
