Furey hope to win Premier Ball’s old seat in the October 6, by-election

Newfoundland and Labrador by-election deadline draws near as Furey hopes claim seat

In just a few months, Newfoundland and Labrador will be the second Canadian province to hold an election in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. Unlike New Brunswick, the province will be holding a by-election to replace former Premier Dwight Ball who resigned on the 17th of February 2020. Ball stayed on as Premier until his successor Andrew Furey won the provincial Liberal leadership race on 3 August 2020.

Furey, currently does not hold a seat in the legislature but early polling indicates he will easily carry the Ball’s former riding of Humber-Gros Morne. Furey along with other potential candidates running it the October 6, 2020 Humber – Gros Morne by-election have until Tuesday September 15, at 2:00pm for filing nomination papers.

Elections NL’s nomination process is completely separate from the political party nomination process and all candidates are required to file by the deadline. If papers are not received by 2:00 p.m. on September 15, the candidate’s name will not appear on the ballot for election.
