Abe was been rushed to hospital and succumbed to his wounds
Former Prime Minister to Japan Shinzo Abe was assassinated early Friday morning while speaking on the campaign trail for the Democratic Party. According to multiple sources, 41-year-old Nara resident Yamagami Tetsuya shot the former prime minister and has been arrested. The motive of his attack is still unknown.

As the support from world leaders continues to pour into Japan, its citizens are in a state of mourning with the death of the former beloved prime minister. Abe was rushed to the nearest hospital in unstable condition and later succumbed to his wounds. Japan has become the latest country plagued by gun violence within the last few days. However, it is an anomaly for gun violence to take place in the country.Japan has some of the world’s strictest gun regulations and ranks among the lowest for fire-arm-related deaths. To own a gun in Japan can take up to a year once the authorities have completed an extensive background check on the applicant.
With the attempt on the former prime minister’s life, it is not far-fetched to think gun regulations in Japan may even become stricter. A key factor will be if Abe survives this terrible act of terrorism.
