First Doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 Vaccine Arrive In Canada

The first distribution of the vaccine will be sent to the ten Canadian provinces

“The first batch of doses of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine have arrived in Canada. This is good news. But our fight against COVID-19 is not over. Now more than ever, let’s keep up our vigilance.” Said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau

The first batch of 30,000 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine landed at the Mirabel International Airport in Montreal Sunday evening under tight security. The Pfizer vaccine will be sent to fourteen distribution sites across the country. All ten provinces will receive a pre determined amount of the vaccine until additional shipments arrive.

The Pfizer vaccine requires storage at a temperature of –70 degrees Celsius and at the current moment, the three northern territories are not equipped with the storage freezers or facilities to house the vaccine. However, that will be rectified within days as the Canadian Armed Forces have been tasked with delivering the freezers to the territories.

“The vaccines are on their way, delivered to the points of use and the points in the provinces will be in a position to administer the vaccines in the coming days.” Said Major General Dany Fortin

With the news that the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was approved and shipments have landed in Canada, we all have reason to be hopeful.
