COVID-19 cases in Nunavut dropping after the provinces first circuit breaker
Iqaluit, Nunavut- Today, Nunavut has a total of 51 active cases of COVID-19 and 155 have recovered. The eight new cases have been identified in Arviat, bringing the community’s number of active cases in that region to 44.
Contact tracing in all impacted communities is ongoing and public health staff are monitoring everyone in isolation. As of December 3, Arviat testing has yielded 678 negative tests. Testing in Whale Cove yielded 125 negative tests. Monitoring in Sanikiluaq and Rankin Inlet continues.
The Department of Health has asked anyone who has a reason to believe they have been exposed to COVID-19 to call the COVID-hotline at 1-888-975-8601 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. EST, or notify their community health centre right away, and immediately isolate at home for 14 days, and under no circumstance go to any health centre in person.
Nunavut still remain under a strict lockdown initiated by the Premier to slow the spread of the pandemic. The province had gone months without reporting a case of the virus until the outbreak in Arviat, which was said to be caused by a person travelling back from Winnipeg.
