Dr. Andrew Furey becomes Newfoundland’s 14th Premier

As the new Premier for Newfoundland and Labrador, Furey will have his work cut for him dealing with a multitude of issues.
Premier designate Dr. Andrew Furey of Newfoundland and Labrador made used his first words to call for provincial unity.
“Together we can emerge from this crisis as a stronger, more caring, more passionate and more diverse Newfoundland and Labrador,” he said. Furey was always the front runner to lead the party once he had received the blessing from out going Premier Ball and his cabinet.
Furey beat out longtime civil servant candidate John Abbott by over thirteen thousand points in his bid to becoming the leader of Liberal Party.
“On behalf of the Government of Canada, I congratulate Dr. Andrew Furey on his successful bid to become the leader of the Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador and the next premier of the province.
“I look forward to working closely with Dr. Furey to keep our communities safe and healthy as we safely restart the economy over the coming months.
“Together, we will also take action to advance key priorities for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. This includes investing in health care, continuing to support joint infrastructure projects, and creating good middle class jobs in the province through partnerships like the Atlantic Growth Strategy.” said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau
As the new Premier for Newfoundland and Labrador, Furey will have his work cut for him dealing with a multitude of issues. From the COVID-19 pandemic to high unemployment, Furey will need to find creative ways to tackle these key issues and prevent the province from filing for bankruptcy.
