Canadian sprinter Andre De Grasse has won gold in the men’s 100-metre race at the 2021 Prefontaine Classic Games.

On August 21, 2021, in the men’s 100-metre race, Canadian Andre De Grasse narrowly outran his competition, winning gold in the Prefontaine Classic Games. In both third and second, America had runners. Ronnie Baker ran with a time of 9.82 seconds while Fred Kerley had a time of 9.78. Yet winning by a mere 0.02 seconds, Andre de Grasse won with a time of 9.74 seconds.
In a quote, De Grasse said, “Not a lot is expected of me now that the Olympic Games is over, so [I] just went out there to have some fun. This field was magnificent. So many people ran under 10 seconds. It’s been a while since anyone has done that before, so it’s really good to be part of that conversation.”
This win comes mere weeks after a stunning performance at the Olympics, becoming Canada’s most decorated male athlete, He won gold in the 200-metre, and bronze in the 100-metre and 4×100-metre races.
The two-time Olympian is not new to praise, with him winning two bronze medals and one silver in Rio, along with a multitude of meals in the Commonwealth Games, Pan American Games, and World Athletics Championships since 2013. But with an Olympic gold medal now belonging to him, De Grasse’s career will certainly go far.
