Chag Pesach Sameach, Passover 2020, Begins at Sundown Today. Officially Marking The Start Of The Jewish Holiday
Tonight at sundown, Jewish communities across Canada and around the world will begin the eight-day celebration of Passover commemorating the Exodus, the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in ancient Egypt.
“Usually, families and friends celebrate Passover by gathering around the Seder table to share a festive meal and reading from the Haggadah, as the youngest child asks the four questions. This year is different, as Canadians and people around the world deal with the impacts of the COVID‑19 pandemic. Please follow the recommendations of our public health experts, and stay at home. If you have to go out, remember to keep a safe distance of at least two metres from others to keep yourselves and your loved ones safe. Said Prime Minister Trudeau
Passover is a time to recognize the power of hope and the strength and perseverance of the Jewish people, who have prevailed in the face of unspeakable persecution. It also reminds us that we must always stand together against antisemitism, hatred, and discrimination, wherever they occur.
While the days of normalcy remain uncertain, it has become now more than ever, a time to reflect and appreciate the ones we love. We join the Jewish community across the globe in recognization this holy day.
