Canadians are spending another long weekend indoors due to COVID-19 restrictions
Today Canada celebrates Victoria day in honour of Queen Victoria’s birthday. The national holiday is celebrated by all three Canadian Territories and by only six of Canada’s ten provinces excluding the ones in the Atlantic region and Quebec. In Quebec, they celebrate the Fête de Dollard, to honour Adam Dollard des Ormeaux an immigrant from France that died in the Battle of Long Sault fighting against Canada’s Iroquois people.
Today also marks the second Pandemic Victoria Day in Canada, which many thought would have been over at the end of 2020. Although many Canadian cities across the country are on strict COVID-19 lockdown, we must remain positive as better days are ahead.
“Since the vaccine rollout, most Canadians have are ready received their first shot of one of the various COVID-19 vaccines, and many have already been fully inoculated. “The goal of Canada’s COVID-19 immunization response is to enable as many Canadians as possible to be immunized as quickly as possible against COVID-19, while ensuring that high-risk populations are prioritized. While the immunization response is large and multifaceted, Canada is in a strong position to take on this challenge. This plan outlines Canada’s approach to widespread immunization against COVID-19, with the first immunizations beginning as soon as possible to priority populations.” Said Health Canada
Canadians are fortunate to have a healthcare system in place that has been able to weather the storm in what many are calling the worst pandemic of the century. We owe a lot to the brave people that continue to put themselves in harm’s way for the betterment of the Country. And on this national holiday where many are at home enjoying the company of loved ones, the essential service workers are doing what they do best, working on the front lines keeping Canadians safe, for that we thank you.
