Canada & Manitoba Metis Federation Reach Historic Agreement On Kapyong Barracks

Kapyong Barracks will finally be transferred back into the hand of Manitoba’s Treaty 1 Indigenous People

The Government of Canada and the Manitoba Metis Federation have resolved outstanding litigation related to Canada’s planned sale of the former Kapyong Barracks land in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Kapyong Barracks have been decommissioned for over a decade and the land was to be transferred back into the ownership of the Treaty One Indigenous people.

With the land firmly back into the hands of the Indigenous people, construction can start. The land will be used for affordable housing, shopping centres and all the traditional amenities to be found in a new development. This development will be the largest urban reservation in Winnipeg.
