Career diplomat to take the helps as new ambassador to Lebanon
Today Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs François-Philippe Champagne, announced the appointment of Chantal Chastenay Canada’s new ambassador to the Lebanese Republic.
Chastenay replaces Emmanuelle Lamoureux who has been serving as the ambassador since August of 2017. Chastenay will be replacing a long term Gulf diplomat. Her appointment comes at a crucial time for Lebanon following the tragic explosion in Beirut. She will lead the coordination of Canada’s ongoing support in response to the crisis which includes addressing the immediate humanitarian crisis and providing support to rebuilding efforts going forward. Canada is providing a total of $30 million in assistance for the people of Lebanon.

Chastenay is a career diplomat and is the Deputy Chief of Protocol, Director of Diplomatic Corps Services. She has also served in high profile roles throughout Asia, Mexico and France.
