Canada And Sudan Elevate Diplomatic Relations To Ambassador Level

Over the past sixty years, Canada has maintained diplomatic relations with the Republic of Sudan but never at the Ambassador level until now.

Sudan’s Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok and Rob Oliphant Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs made the formal announcement to elevate both countries’ diplomatic status.

The significance of having Ambassadors in both countries will only further enhance communication and cooperation on important matters such as immigration and refugees. It also gives Canada access to a region that is often isolated from the Western world.

Canada acknowledges the possibility that exists in this new generation for Sudan. As the Government of Sudan maintains to implement the phrases of the constitutional agreement, Canada appears forward to partnering with the Government of Sudan and is devoted to the ongoing achievement of this democratic transition.
