Black History Month Honours Master Abdullah Sabree

A Pioneer in Islamic Martial Arts and the first member of Canada’s National Taekwondo team

Black History Month is a time to recognize and celebrate the contributions of Black Canadians to the country’s history and culture. One person who has made a significant impact in the martial arts world is Master Abdullah Sabree. Since the early 1980s, he has been involved in developing the martial arts community both within the Islamic community and beyond.

Master Sabree is a 7th Degree Black Belt in ITF Taekwondo and a former member of the Canadian national team. He has dedicated his life to the study and practice of martial arts, and his passion for the sport is evident in everything he does. In addition to his skills as a martial artist, Master Sabree is also known for his dedication to the development of the sport and his commitment to empowering young people.

In the early 1980s, Master Sabree saw a need for a martial arts academy that would serve the needs of the Islamic community. In response, he founded UMMA Martial Arts, the first Muslim martial arts academy in Canada. UMMA Martial Arts has become a hub for the Islamic martial arts community, and it has played a crucial role in promoting the sport and encouraging young people to get involved.

Under Master Sabree’s guidance, UMMA Martial Arts has become a place where young people can learn the fundamentals of martial arts, develop their skills, and build their confidence. The academy has helped to break down barriers and provide a supportive and inclusive environment for young people to pursue their passion for martial arts.

In addition to his work with UMMA Martial Arts, Master Sabree has also been an active member of the Canadian martial arts community. He has worked to promote the sport at the national and international levels, and he has been recognized for his contributions to the sport by several organizations.

Master Abdullah Sabree is a true pioneer in the Islamic martial arts community, and his dedication and passion for the sport have inspired countless young people to get involved. As we celebrate Black History Month, let us remember the contributions of Master Sabree and all the other Black Canadians who have made a difference in the martial arts world.
