Many fear Henri will be upgraded to hurricane status

As Tropical Storm Henri approaches the Atlantic Provinces of Canada, Islanders are encouraged to monitor Environment Canada for updates and weather warnings. A statement released by Environment Canada yesterday says that Tropical Storm Henri is expected to hit all of Nova Scotia as early as next week. The weather agency said that the tropical storm is moving slowly northwards and could strengthen to a Category-2 hurricane.
Islanders are asked to prepare using the “How to be prepared for an Emergency” guide. Some helpful tips are:
– Making a household emergency plan,
– Updating your preparedness kits; include extra food, pet supplies, water, masks, and hand sanitizers for five days,
– Bringing in or tying down furniture, barbeques, or anything that can be picked up by high winds,
– Replacing smoke and carbon monoxide alarm batteries,
– Make sure you have enough fuel supplies,
– And keep yourself informed with reliable sources like local media and PEI Public Safety.
Hurricanes and tropical storms can cause and lead to serious risks to people due to heavy rains, high winds, a storm surge, and even tornadoes. In many instances leads to flooding and a massive financial bill to rebuild.
